A recent survey conducted by LANA Paws, a lifestyle store for pets, finds that pet parents now splurge more and want to create ‘meaningful’ experiences with their pets. Conducted on 500 pet parents in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai, the survey finds that pet ownership is undergoing a lot of change as pet owners, or parents, are willing to spend more on their pets.Survey findings indicate that factors such as higher spending power, sensitivity to animals and social media craze are fueling the current trend of growing pet ownership in India.
According to India International Pet Trade Fair (IIPTF), the pet population in India has grown from 7 million in 2006 to 10 million in 2011. On an average 600,000 pets are adopted every year. And TechSci Research report, “India Pet Food Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019”, projects that the Indian pet food market to surpass USD270 million by 2019.
